Engineer Juarez

Publisert: 12.03.2020

Wednesday 11.03.
We left Asuncion at 6 o'clock. The first problem arose at the border crossing to Argentina. Since the documents of the vans were stolen in Ciudad del Este, no insurances could be presented. We had to take out insurances for the vans and motorcycles at every border crossing. These insurances should now be taken out retrospectively. However, the local insurance company refused, saying it was not possible. So no going forward and no going back for now. After the Italians had conjured up some copies of Italian insurance certificates, we could finally continue. From 12 noon it was unbearably hot again. We drove on Ruta 11 towards Bolivia. On the way, we could see grass fires next to the roads at irregular intervals. We do not know if they arise from carelessness, spontaneous combustion due to heat, or intentional ignition. Due to the heat, I suspect spontaneous combustion. Around 5 p.m., I could read 43 degrees on the temperature display of my motorcycle. The wind, which should have cooled, was only hot and unbearable air. The final destination of today was the town of Engineer Juarez, as the Americans would say - in the middle of Nowhere. Some of us were able to stay in a hotel here, the rest had to camp in the garden of the church, as there were no more available rooms in the existing hotels.
