Von Linz entlang der Donau stromabwärts

Publisert: 29.06.2017

On Saturday, June 24th, 2017, we will continue. Around noon, we will start downstream from the campsite at Plechinger See, following the Danube. The first 2km will be along a hiking trail right next to the river, then we will ride about 3km on the Danube cycling path. The weather will be hot again and there will be hardly any shade. So we will take our first break under a highway bridge and enjoy the breeze there. After about 5km, we can leave the bike path and walk parallel to the Danube meadows. We will have our second break at the shady edge of a gravel pit. There is no work on Saturdays, so I will take the opportunity for a cool down. It is time to find a place for the night. It is the weekend and many good spots are already occupied by anglers. After about 15km, we will set up our camp in the early evening just across from Kronau, in a small forest directly by the river.

On Sunday morning, I can pack up my stuff dry again. Shortly after we start walking, it starts drizzling lightly. The Dicke is limping again, so I pack his paw in cotton wool again. From our campsite, we will go to the Spilberg ruin and continue towards Langenstein. There will be time for a snack in Mauthausen. After I have fortified myself and we want to continue marching, the drizzle turns into a heavy, continuous rain. I spontaneously extend our stay in the town by 3 hours in a beer garden, with delicious Radler and later coffee with Topfenstrudel. In the afternoon, the rain subsides a bit and we can finally continue. Rango also gets rid of his bandage, which was renewed in Mauthausen, and prefers to limp... After another 2 kilometers, we are intercepted at the entrance to Albern and invited to a summer festival. It turns out that the Turkish Kurds from the area meet here for a communal meal and drink. Rango is provided with raw lamb meat and I get to enjoy grilled food with salad and freshly baked flatbread. After a few nice conversations, we continue southeast, along meadows and fields. In the evening, we reach the campsite in Au an der Donau after nearly 13km.
