I'm still in Melbourne. On Monday, I'm heading to Airlie Beach to visit the Great Barrier Reef! There are only 3 direct flights from Melbourne to Airlie Beach each week. The flight takes 3 hours.
The flight from Sydney to Melbourne only took 1.5 hours.
Melbourne is just as amazing! I feel really comfortable here. Everything in the city is within walking distance or you can take the free trams in the city area. The adjacent suburb Fitzroy is also very cool. Very urban, cool cafes, lots of small alleyways with graffiti. I couldn't get enough of taking photos of them :) Melbourne has several markets, many shopping opportunities... and the food here is also delicious. They don't have anything really typical here, except that they eat kangaroos :p There is a lot of British influence, but the fish & chips here are fantastic!
I don't know why everyone always says that Australia is so expensive! The prices are the same as back home. It might look different at first glance... if a meal costs AU$15, but when converted, it's around €10. Even the hostels cost around €28 when converted... and the supermarkets have normal prices too... one of the 3 largest chains here (besides Woolworth and Coles) is Aldi :) It looks exactly the same as back home and you can find many products there.
Anyway, I'm managing great with my daily budget here and I thought I would go over it every day in Australia. I have to defend the Aussies a bit now :p
