Day 8 Trogir

Publisert: 14.08.2018

Again and again, we realize on our travels that we actually are not the people who can spend a whole day at the beach or even better in the apartment. As soon as we are on the road in foreign countries, the desire to explore new cities and landscapes grips us.

And so this day started rather leisurely and without plans. A little swim at the beach of Kastela and the actual plan of finally doing nothing.

Far from it, we can rest at home, that's the decision, and off we went to the nearby Trogir. A spontaneous idea without much preparation and therefore without specific expectations. The search for a parking space turned out to be surprisingly easy and so we walked along the water, as always in bright sunshine and about 33 degrees.

(Sun protection is really important here and we have not had any sunburned days so far, which we are quite proud of.)

We only reached the actual old town of Trogir through small bridges and at the first sight of the preserved remains of the city wall and the old town hidden behind it, it became clear that this excursion was already worth it. In the maze of streets of the city, which was by no means crowded, the whole beauty quickly revealed itself. A wonderfully harmonious old town with beautiful Renaissance and Baroque buildings. Small streets that repeatedly revealed new beautiful little squares and meandered like a labyrinth that wanted to be discovered. Nice side effect: restful shaded areas between the densely packed houses and thus the perfect place to stay in these temperatures. As Trogir is not particularly large (about 13,200 inhabitants), we quickly reached the promenade of the small peninsula. Here, the holiday feeling was perfect. Shining blue water with some yachts anchored here and a light sea breeze in front of an almost perfect city silhouette, lined with some palm trees. In the background, remains of an old fortress.

It is no wonder that this city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 and was also used as a filming location for Winnetou films. For us, a real surprise hit and a beautiful place to linger and have a picnic.
