Day 36/37: San Antonio - Port of Santiago de Chile

Publisert: 01.12.2022

San Antonio is located in the middle of Chile in the Region de Valparaíso on the Pacific. The main attraction of the city, which has a population of about 86,000, is its port - it is the largest and most important port in Chile ahead of the neighboring city of Valparaíso.
As we enter the port, we are surrounded by container ships. Due to weeks-long strikes by port workers, there is a backlog of shipments, so many ships are anchored. Surrounded by these giants, we dock at the pier.

Today, a delegation of Chileans came to test all infected people for COVID-19. Ordered at short notice, without affecting the procedures on AIDA. Presumably just to make some more money; we don't find out the result.

Several sea lions bask in the sun right by the fish market. They have specialized in feeding on fish scraps and have settled into a comfortable life.

The tanker Don Sancho II departs at 7:30 a.m. after supplying us with fuel since yesterday evening at 6:30 p.m. Presumably, we have bunkered 500-700 tons. According to the captain, we need about 1 ton per hour and engine, which means we can run at full steam for 10-14 days without refueling. The South Seas can come. In the morning, we observe the mooring maneuver of a car transporter from Kobe, which docks right behind us.

At 4 p.m., the German national team's last group stage match against Costa Rica will be shown as a public viewing event in the theater. We are still bored in the cabin.
