Arrival in Singapore

Publisert: 10.12.2018

So after a 12-hour flight with delicious food, movies, games, a little sleep but plenty of tomato juice (unfortunately served without salt and pepper), we arrived at our destination on time.

When we arrived, it was around 6:50 am local time and we departed from Frankfurt at 11:40 am. So it felt like no time had passed for us and we were surprisingly fresh. Maybe comparable to the feeling after a long night when you have already passed the tired point. Of course, there was also the excitement. Well, anyway, we were fit! :)

The airport in Singapore, called Changi Airport, was very clean and quite impressive. We were guided through the huge buildings and first greeted by a gigantic Christmas decoration. At immigration control, we had to submit a pre-filled document, along with our passport and fingerprint.

The hall where we could collect our luggage was as big as it was green. Numerous plants and water installations were placed on the walls and in the midst of the baggage belts. Quite impressive and a small preview of the days to come. Our luggage arrived quickly and we headed to the train station.

So we took the SMRT (Singapore Mass Rapid Transport) to the station near our AirBnb room. Previously, a nice lady (Singaporean?!) helped us pay for our ticket because we had no cash yet and couldn't pay with a credit card.

On the way from the station to the accommodation, we had our first encounter with the weather in Singapore. It felt like 30 degrees hot and the high humidity was like a wall. Accordingly, we were sweaty when we arrived fully loaded at the right address.

Now it was already 8 o'clock.... However, the earliest check-in was at 2 o'clock. So we had to kill 6 hours of time. At least we could leave our luggage there.

In these 6 hours, we first looked for an ATM to withdraw cash. Then we ate 3 portions of various Asian noodle variants for 3 S$ (about €1.8) at a food corner. Otherwise, we explored the area, took many breaks, played Yahtzee, and then finally walked back to the accommodation (completely exhausted).

There, the daughter (?!) of our host Daniel opened the door for us and brought our luggage. So we took our backpacks out of their private apartment and were then kindly escorted out of the apartment by the said daughter. We stood there, 2 doors and at most 5 meters away from our eagerly awaited bed, but in front of a locked door. After we collected ourselves, we rang the doorbell again and clarified the misunderstanding. In the end, everyone laughed, except for the rather grim-looking grandma.

We spent the rest of the day in bed and in the land of Singaporean dreams.
