Today, spontaneously, the five of us drove to Okapuka. Lucas, a friend of ours who doesn't live with us, could only drive us and then had to work.
Okapuka is only about 30km from Windhoek and offers the opportunity to go hiking and take smaller safari tours relatively close to Windhoek in a private reserve. We started walking at the ranch at around 10:30 am and went hiking for 3.5 hours. The circular route is 15km long and very hilly. Unfortunately, it is not equipped with kilometer signs, so we never knew how far we had already walked. After about 6km, as my phone told me afterwards, we turned around and walked back to the ranch. Due to the midday heat, it was already strenuous, but next time we definitely want to start earlier and walk the entire way. The view from the mountains was beautiful and it was definitely worth it.
When we were back at the ranch, we had a little something to eat and drink and then rested in the shade for a bit. At 4 pm, we went on a 1.5-hour game drive. We saw rhinos from 1m away, many giraffes with little babies, rare sable antelopes, a huge crocodile, zebras, impalas, springboks, wildebeests, and warthogs 😊 I didn't even know that you can see so many animals so close to Windhoek. The day was really really nice 🦒🦏😍
