I don't know why, but butterflies fascinate me. I read in the travel guide about a so-called Mariposario (butterfly farm) near Granada. However, since the disappointment with the nature reserve a few days ago, I have become somewhat skeptical. Did I mention the man with the leaf blower who blew away the leaves in the reserve? Idyllic sound. Where was I? Oh yes, the butterflies. We took a taxi, but the driver didn't know the farm at all. Bad omen. The road there led straight ahead, after a short time the asphalt ended, then so did the old cobblestone road. On both sides of the road there were huts made of corrugated iron, plastic sheets, wood residues and all sorts of stuff. The taxi was probably an unusual sight, we stood out a bit. Then suddenly we were in front of the farm. Uncertain whether we would ever get a ride back from here, we agreed on a pick-up time. The man in charge of the butterflies was a small, friendly man with only three front teeth, wearing rubber boots, who mumbled terribly. He showed us the really beautiful, garden-like facility and the "flight hall". Then he left us alone. What a dreamlike silence! Only the silently fluttering butterflies and a soft rustling of the leaves in the wind. Unreal. The little delicate creatures would sometimes almost land on us if we stayed still for a moment.

There are even accommodation options here, three simple wooden cabins without electricity and water. Toilet and shower behind the farmhouse. The butterfly man told us that a couple once lived here for six months.

Conclusion: Travel guides don't always lie. This was a charming little excursion.
