Day 31 - The Lord is my shepherd

Publisert: 04.12.2017

The streetscape is characterized by these old, yellow, American school buses. It must be taken very literally that they are "old".

The system often works here in such a way that the buses belong to the drivers (or at least to a private individual) and they have come together to form a cooperation. Therefore, the front area inside is very personally decorated. It is full of pious sayings (The Lord is my king and savior, I trust in God, ...), small statues and shrines of Mary, and crosses. I staunchly ignore the possibility of a causal connection between the age and condition of the bus and the demonstrative piety of the driver.

As a passenger, you can practically transport anything with it: oversized bags, bicycles, sacks of rice and beans, building materials, small furniture. The "conductor" simply throws the things on the roof.

Today on the bus to Masaya, there was a phrase that could be the motto of the Nicas: "If you're in a hurry, get up early. We are not responsible for your poorly organized time." I have to rethink when it comes to appointments and meetings. For example, on Friday I had made an appointment with Jasmina, one of the teachers in the project. She is learning German for a reason that I do not understand. She has a test coming up and asked me for help. I waited for three quarters of an hour. No message from Gurb, or rather Jasmina. Oh, that's normal. I have to confess that at first it was difficult for me not to be angry. German punctuality.
