Rottnest Island is said to be one of the absolute highlights in Perth. And ahead: That's absolutely true. The ferry ride is a bit expensive, but it's worth it. The distance between the island and the mainland is about 20 km. Rottnest was originally used as a military base, but now it's just for enjoyment. In addition, only commercial cars/buses are allowed to drive there. Since the island is not very large, exploring it by bike is much more beautiful anyway. Quokkas live on Rottnest. Since the area was separated from the mainland at the end of the Ice Age 7000 years ago, this type of kangaroo has been able to survive and exists only there. The namesake of the island thought they were a type of rat (hence Rottnest). In my opinion, however, these animals are much cuter than rats...and really loyal.
There were also other types of animals to see, such as sea lions relaxing in the sea and lizards.
The coastlines were really amazing. I couldn't decide which beach I wanted to get my sunburn on as a grand finale.
