Day 36: Port Townsend, Dash Posh State Park

Publisert: 10.07.2018

The sun is shining in the morning, so having breakfast outside is possible. After that, we pack everything up and leave. Our 3-hour tour is divided into 2 stages. After 1 hour, we reach the first one: Port Townsend. The small harbor town is worth seeing. It was founded in 1880 and expanded with a harbor, gentlemen's houses, and commercial buildings. In 1890, the city went into crisis because the railroad did not go to Port Townsend, but to Tacoma and Seattle. Hippies rediscovered the old seaport in the late 1960s, and today tourists stroll along the beach promenade. It is very beautiful here, without children, you can spend a lot of time in the cafe with a view of the harbor, the old brick buildings, and watch the hustle and bustle. We stroll along the street and try to capture some of the flair. Of all the coastal cities, we like this one the best. After lunch, we drive through the upper town, which is located above the cliffs. Now our short detour is over and we pass Tacoma and head to Dash Point State Park along the coast. It is clear and sunny. In the background, the snow-covered Mount Rainier appears again and again. We cross two bridges and are now just before Seattle. It is half past 3 and we decide to go to the sea one last time. The state park has a small beach. In good weather and on Sundays, many visitors are out and about. Erik splashes in the shallow water. Unfortunately, there are many algae there and the beach is not so fine. Many dogs are there. They have to be leashed, but they still bother us. We spend an hour there, then we walk back to the car. An owner with his dog lets him come very close to us. I don't like that and I clearly say 'go'. Who knows how the dog reacts to children. Now the big packing and cleaning up begins. Everything has to be clean. Rene takes care of everything outside and I do it inside. Sometimes difficult, David is hungry and tired. Nevertheless, we manage to stow everything away. David doesn't really want to go back to sleep. He probably feels my tension. It's not until half past 9 that both children are in bed, we can take a short breather and discuss tomorrow's day.
