3. Second day in Prague

Publisert: 15.03.2023

After the last evening, I had to sleep in, which of course did not go well in my 12-bed room where I still didn't know anyone. The day started with me locking myself out of the room and later locking my key in the closet (reminder to myself: bring a better lock next time!)

I started the day with breakfast in the botanical garden. I would have needed Czech cash for the greenhouses, which of course I didn't have, so I only looked at the stones and plants outside.

Then I walked towards the old town and made a detour to Kafka's head and the astronomical clock, completing the things on my tourist list. Since I didn't know where to go, I went to the Sex Machine Museum and saw some really weird things there. The most disturbing was the brothel dollhouse. The people back then couldn't quite decide whether they wanted sexual freedom or chastity.

The 'movies' from the early 20th century were the best. The tinkling music made it all look ridiculous. But at least it showed me that this housekeeper thing has been a thing for a long time. Also, two women together have always been more than just accepted.

Back in front of the museum, I realized that the weather had changed. I escaped the rain in a cafe and met up with Ghaya again via couchsurfing. She's a Tunisian who lives in Hungary and luckily also eats vegetarian, so we quickly found the right restaurant. In Mairea, we had no-duck breast with red cabbage and bread dumplings. It was supposed to be typical Czech, but it reminded me more of a traditional German Christmas dinner.

Then we went to the Cross Club on a whim, recommended to us by Mára. We ended up in a scene bar with a kind of steel punk style where the Open Stage happened to be that evening.

We tried to order drinks and it was a bit difficult because they only accepted cash, thankfully also in euros, but they really ripped us off. But never mind.

On stage, Silent Dawn, a really good metal band, played. Just my taste: melodic, rocky, and screamed.

Silent Dawn

I enjoyed it very much. After, of course, being asked for weed, as could be expected, I went to bed a bit earlier because the next day we were heading to Krakow.
