Anyone who looks at London's sights will certainly have the striking Millennium Bridge in mind. At one end you can see Saint Paul's Cathedral and at the other end a strange-looking industrial building with a tall chimney.
In fact, it is a converted oil-fired power station, the Bankside Power Station. It was in operation until 1981. Rising oil prices eventually made the power station uneconomical.
As an industrial wasteland in the middle of the city, it was an eyesore and so the idea for a museum for modern art was born.
I can't say that the building particularly appeals to me, nor that I know anything about art. Nevertheless, I think it's worth a visit.
There are various floors and exhibitions that can be visited free of charge. This means that everyone can get to grips with this art form. Only special exhibitions require an extra payment.
A real highlight is the 10th floor, where there is an observation deck with a wonderful view over London - and that's also free!
