Day 110 When no plan becomes a plan

Gepubliceerd: 30.07.2017

Since I had more or less spontaneously decided to fly to Hong Kong, I hadn't really prepared for it. So today I went out of the hostel without a plan and wanted to be surprised about where the day would take me.

In the elevator of the high-rise building with our hostel, I met an English woman who also lived in the hostel. We talked a little bit and when I asked her what she wanted to do today, she told me that she wanted to visit a park and go to the national museum in the afternoon. When I asked if I could join her, she had no objections and so I had a plan for today.

The park belonged to a small monastery run by nuns. The monastery with its beautiful little park was located between streets and high-rise buildings. A small green spot in the middle of the concrete jungle.

The monastery and the Buddha figures inside were very different from the monasteries in Tibet. I didn't recognize any of the Buddha figures.

In the afternoon, we visited the national museum to learn about the history of Hong Kong. To my surprise, admission was free. We also got into the park this morning for free. A really nice change, in Kathmandu we had to pay for everything.

After the museum, we strolled along the harbor line for a while and enjoyed the view of the skyline.

In the evening at 8:00, we learned that there would be a light show with the skyline. Of course, we didn't want to miss this and so we returned to the harbor line after a short break at the hostel to experience the spectacle. Well, let's say the spectacle was a bit exaggerated. The skyline was so brightly lit that you could hardly see the light balls in the sky. I also didn't really see a concept behind it. But the trip was still worthwhile, just for the illuminated skyline.
