Day 4: Rainy Day on Koh Phangan

Gepubliceerd: 11.01.2018

The title says it all about our day today. It was already drizzling outside when we woke up. By the way, we slept really well today. I think we're slowly getting used to the time difference.

We treated ourselves to breakfast on the beach, which would have been a much nicer location in the sunshine. But we don't want to complain, because who can say they had breakfast on the beach today?

The plan was to rent a scooter and drive to the Phaeng Waterfall and hike up from there. It took a while for the rain to stop and we tested our first attempt with the scooter on the Thai roads. At first, it was a bit bumpy, and Christian was also very cautious. But slowly, I think he's getting the hang of it and I'm also feeling safer on the back seat.

The ascent was initially going well. We also took some great snapshots right away. And then it suddenly started raining heavily again. The water was already flowing down the actual path. We didn't know how far it was to the top, so we decided to go back because it would have been too slippery and dangerous otherwise.

Once we got back down, we waited under cover until it stopped and then made our way back. But since the view at the top is supposed to be amazing, we want to try again in the next few days when the weather is better.

After we were dry again, we rode the scooter to Thong Sala and asked where we could rent a kayak in the next few days to paddle to the nearby island of Koh Tae Nai.

When it started raining again, we were luckily already at our hotel and had a small snack at the covered Beach Cafe.

In the evening, we drove a few more kilometers to get something to eat. We were recommended the Win Win Restaurant. And it was really incredibly delicious. They have a hot pot, or here it's called a hot pan. There's a container with glowing coal on the table, and on top of it is a pan. In the middle, you grill your own meat, and around the edges, there's hot water with vegetables. An all-you-can-eat buffet for just under 5€.

Just like yesterday, we're now ending the evening with full stomachs and a delicious cocktail on the super comfortable bean bags on the beach. Despite the rain, we had a really great stress-free day.
