The Grampian Mountains

Gepubliceerd: 28.11.2022

From the Limestone Coast, we then made a detour into the hinterland: the Grampians - a mountain region at medium mountain level - were on the agenda. Our activities there were limited to various hikes, on which we were able to see not only great landscapes but also a lot of Australian wildlife: Kangaroos were everywhere - you almost had to be careful not to step on their big feet - and there were also emus, parrots, cockatoos, and pinecone lizards, but we were unsuccessful in finding an echidna (spiny anteater). However, on the last hike, we had an unwelcome guest, namely a brown snake, which is the second most venomous snake in the world (and also in Australia) and is also considered quite aggressive. It was lying on a stair step, so we couldn't see it coming from above. However, other hikers coming towards us had spotted it and fortunately warned us, because since the animal was not bothered by the sun while warming up, we might have walked straight into its venomous fangs... Lucky us!
