We have of course heard and read about the Meteora Monasteries. Seeing them has impressed us a lot and the boys liked it too.
We arrived in Kastraki in the late afternoon, this village is located at the foot of the monasteries. Everything was deserted, there was only one other motorhome on our campsite. This also explained the disappointingly empty pool. The campsite operator compensated us somewhat with two coffee frappes ;-)
But now to the actual reason for our visit: From a distance, you can see these 'rock blocks' rising in the plain, this alone is worth seeing. Monks built monasteries on these rocks from the 14th century onwards, which could only be climbed using cable winches and retractable ladders for a long time. Today it is easier to climb stairs. Gian counted, there were at least 200 per monastery! In the evening we visited a women's monastery and this morning a women's and a men's monastery. It is incredibly impressive what has been created here. Thanks to Corona, it was not crowded at all and we were able to truly enjoy these power places.
