In mid-September, my friend and I went on a day trip to Lake Kochel to inaugurate the new hiking poles he gave me for my birthday.
Because we overslept and it is still a considerable distance to drive, we could only start hiking at 1:00 pm.
The path was very wide and more like a forest road than a hiking trail, and it was really crowded. Understandably, with the beautiful weather, family-friendly path, and the cable car that went up to the summit and tempted all sorts of people to hike down.
From the height of the cable car mountain station, we had several options. We decided to go to the summit cross. The path there was more like a hiking trail, but it was bustling like Stachus! But at the top, we had a great view of Lake Kochel in the Bavarian foothills and Lake Walchensee, which is more in the middle of the mountains.
To have our summit snack, we went back a bit and to another 'summit', where there was a beautiful chapel and absolutely nothing going on. We enjoyed the peace and the view before we started our descent again.
