The flights

Gepubliceerd: 20.01.2017

My first blog post! Hi to all who are reading! :)

I'm currently sitting at the airport in Australia and still have a flight to Auckland ahead of me, but I want to summarize everything before jet lag erases my memory ;) or I spend a week in bed while everyone asks if I arrived (well). Don't worry, the first two flights went well!

Actually, this journey started much earlier than January 19th at Düsseldorf Airport. It started with the planning of the whole project, the preparation, but above all with the idea and the willingness to actually go through with it and go away for six months alone. But if I start talking about that now, I'll completely deviate from the topic. 😂

So here I was on Thursday morning at 8 o'clock at the airport, having to say goodbye and find the rest of the way on my own. Of course, that wasn't nice, but goodbye is not forever. That's part of a journey.

After saying goodbye to my family, I went through the security check and into the waiting area, terminals, gates, planes.

Here's a short description of the flight:

Route: Düsseldorf --> Abu Dhabi

Duration: 6 h

Time zones crossed: +3

Stress factor: relaxed

Plane: Boeing 789 (no guarantee)

'Check-in' in Abu Dhabi

The planes were quite well equipped. There was a monitor for movies, TV, news, music, etc. The Arabian airline always provided a compass with a needle pointing towards Mecca. In addition, there was a blanket and a pillow (better to use your own) and a wide selection of food. Another special feature of the Arabian airline: everything is kosher. By the way, vegetarians always get their food first here! I think that's great ;)

A quick note on the second flight:

Route: Abu Dhabi, UAE --> Perth, Australia
Duration: 11 h
Time zones crossed: +4
Stress factor: borderline
Plane: see above

It was really exhausting to move the time forward by about 7 hours in just 24 hours, sit for 17 hours, and still manage to sleep properly. One more flight, and I'll be in New Zealand! 😍
