Departure preparations in Sandefjord

Gepubliceerd: 14.01.2021

The quarantine is coming to an end. The well-regulated daily routine will be gone for a while. Towards the end, the food, especially breakfast and lunch, didn't really impress anymore. There was always enough time every day to use the excuse of 'not having enough time' for things like studying or reading. So, moments of boredom were rare. But of course, they existed. At least this form of boredom will probably not occur very often in the near future, as there are still some organizational things to take care of and roommates to meet upon arrival in Trondheim.

The result of the second voluntary corona test that we were allowed to take at the hotel has arrived and allows for an earlier departure. For tomorrow's journey, I have occasionally diverted some of the last food packages and set them aside. On the 8-9 hour journey, a boost is more necessary than here in 'quarantine rest mode'. There has been some centimeters of snow in the last few days, and it remains to be seen whether the chosen winter tires can perform well in this environment and on the long journey. All in all, there are two routes to Trondheim. The 'beautiful' one, where you can, for example, get a good view of the peaks of the Scandinavian Mountains and pass by the Dovrefjell National Park (where musk oxen give each other the hardest headbutts in the mammal kingdom and occasionally also attack rutting hikers - sounds exciting... I have to check it out sometime). Or there is the 'short route'. Which means a time saving of 45 minutes, so 'only' 8 hours of driving time. This route has less impressive mountain landscapes to offer, but you get a view of Oslo. And even on this slightly more 'inland' route, the landscape should still show off Norway's natural beauty. Since 8 hours will be exhausting enough, my date with the musk oxen will have to be postponed for now.

Now I have to get the most important utensils into the car. Including my loyal beer crate, filled with the best double bock (better value for money when it comes to customs - considered regular beer [although the customs officers didn't care about that anyway🤷‍♂️]). You might think that all the bottles are still in there now, it must have taken incredible willpower. Actually, however, it was impossible for me to tap into the beer reserves because the crate was the only thing that could be used for a rudimentary workout. Alcohol doesn't always harm your health.

Next time, there will probably be a post from Trondheim. I will already miss Sandefjord a little, especially on sunny days when the sun glides low over the Sandefjord. The sight in the snowy landscape of the little fjord had something special.
