Today we took a detour via Finland to Karasjok, the "capital" of the Sami people. At least the Sami parliament is located here.
The journey through Finland was characterised by reindeer and mosquitoes, lakes and mosquitoes, forests and mosquitoes, long roads and mosquitoes. Yes, that is no exaggeration. In fact, we were well prepared and had the appropriate protection, but the little pests were still extremely annoying. We are actually looking forward to travelling near the coast again. 😉
In the evening in Karasjok we visited Storgammen, a Sami restaurant. There you don't usually sit at traditional tables, but at low wooden blocks around a fire. There we enjoyed an excellent meal with salmon as a starter and reindeer stew with mashed potatoes and local berries as the main course. For dessert we had a dream of chocolate and ice cream. The latter was probably not typically Sami, but it rounded off the meal perfectly. All in all, this restaurant is definitely a must-stop if you are in this area.
