Farewell to Santiago

प्रकाशित: 16.12.2018

Actually, I didn't think I had anything to report about today, but it always turns out differently than you think...

"For a true backpacker, there are no problems! There are only challenges!"

The carry-on trolley bag (as a backpacker, I also have a backpack) turned out to be too small quite quickly, even though I only took the essentials. And now it also gave up under the weight more or less. (Sorry Dad and Birgit)

I already researched yesterday evening that there is a Decathlon store outside of Santiago that has cheap travel bags. So I'm going there today. Metro, metro, bus - no problem at all, I'm slowly getting used to Santiago. It makes me very happy that I can get along so well over 12,000 kilometers away from Hamburg.

Other than that, I took care of my Chilean SIM card today, which was incredibly complicated and too annoying to write about here. Everything is working now, challenge mastered :-)

On the way to recharge this SIM card with credit, I discover the building of the "Partido Socialista de Chile" in the Barrio Paris-Londres, almost directly across from my hotel. The door is open and I peek inside. In one room, the "Salon Salvador Allende Gossens", there is a coffin. Unbelievably many flowers, all in red and a little white, behind the coffin among other things a huge flag of the party. At first I don't dare to go inside, but then I ask and I am kindly invited into the party building. I tell in Spanish/English that I am from Germany, active in the Left (not the party) and I am euphorically led into the memorial room. I talk a little with a man who shows me everything and I am allowed to take photos. I don't take any of this funeral scene. I thought it would be inappropriate... Somehow I think it's cool, this socialist funeral. This person will be properly and fittingly bid farewell by their comrades. At some point, I would also like to have something like this organized by my Homies of Crime! Beautiful in black and red! Hehe!

Other than that, the day consists of packing and strolling around. In the evening, I go for a beer in a beautiful beer garden on the street opposite the hotel. At some point, two women sitting behind me ask if I would like to join them. I would! Ufff, and suddenly it's very late and there were several Pisco Sours throughout the evening..

Tomorrow I am flying to the Atacama Desert to San Pedro at 2 pm.
