Today is already Thursday, the weather is nice, sunny, and it's supposed to be 28 degrees Celsius. So it's high time to leave the hospital bed. We didn't have a fever this morning :-)... Anne is being cautious and wanted to stay home for one more day. Too bad, because we had already booked the tickets for the Natural History Museum. I was ready to go out, so after breakfast on the terrace, we went to the subway and headed to the Upper West Side in Manhattan. Pauline had already figured out which line would take us where. We arrived at the museum around twenty to 10:00 a.m. and there was already a long line of people waiting outside. We joined the line and observed all the souvenir and snack stalls in front of the museum. Promptly at 10:00 a.m., we went into the impressive building. Since we had online tickets, we were able to go in immediately. In the first room, we were overwhelmed by the size of the exhibition area and the exhibits. It was incredible how faithfully the African savannah had been recreated with three-dimensional replicas flowing into picturesque savannah images. We examined everything closely and then moved on to the next room. All continents were depicted. The museum has 4 floors, which we all explored. After about 4 hours, we were done and pretty exhausted. Meanwhile, it was 28 degrees Celsius outside. We sat down on the museum steps and rested for a while. Then we walked south along the Upper West Side and passed by a small café where we each got a coffee. The Upper West Side was also full of people, cars, and very noisy. Then we went to a "Shake Shack" and each got a burger (the girls a veggie burger, me a non-veggie burger). It was one of the most delicious burgers I had ever eaten. Then we continued towards Broadway and happened to pass by a film set on a side street. Of course, we had to go there... They were in the middle of filming, but we couldn't see which movie it was. Pauline immediately asked the people around us and got the information that it was a new episode of Gossip Girl. That's why I didn't recognize anything, I had never seen it before. After about 20 minutes, the team finished and they packed up to go to the next filming location. It was funny that the NYPD has its own team just for film sets. The police officers were sitting comfortably in the car and doing something on their phones. Then we continued to Broadway and Times Square. It was naturally very crowded here. Masses of people and honking cars. In between, there were police and ambulance sirens. Not my kind of thing. I sat down by a fountain and the kids took lots of photos.
I also noticed that I wasn't feeling completely well yet, so I wanted to slowly head back home. We went to the subway and took it back to Brooklyn. On the way to the apartment, we wanted to get a wrap. Unfortunately, the desired store was already closed. So we got some salad and a burrito at "Chipotle" and ate them at home. I ended the evening with a beer on the terrace.
