After a 20-hour journey with a layover in Jeddah, we arrive in Thailand's capital Bangkok. We will be staying here for three days. We didn't expect much from Bangkok, we know the bustling, noisy city and have previously wanted to leave quickly.
But when we arrive at Phaya Thai train station, it welcomes us like an old friend. Immediately we can remember Thailand's scent, a mixture of curry paste, incense, coconut, and many unfamiliar scents in the air. It smells like longing.
Contrary to expectations, we really enjoy our time in Bangkok. We hop from street vendor to street vendor, visit the nearby market, and have the best papaya salad with the locals at the hidden lunch buffet that we accidentally discovered. As is customary in Thailand, we spend a large part of our time eating, because it is a true revelation. In between, we indulge in massages, ride in tuk-tuks, or relax by the pool of our nice hotel overlooking the rooftops of Bangkok. A little adventure is also a must, that's why we decided to get our last travel vaccinations in Bangkok. The empty travel medical department that we found initially made us uncomfortable, but that feeling quickly passes. One floor below, doctors and nurses take excellent care of us.
Soon we will continue to Bali. We are looking forward to it.
