Chinese Hawaii - Hainan

Hello 😊,

During our trip planning, Janina and I wanted some sea and beach, but it's very difficult to find in China, only in Sanya, Hainan, there are many beaches. The island is lovingly called Chinese Hawaii, but it's nothing really special, in Greece or Spain you can find nicer beaches with clearer water... But it was still a great time there, we spent a lot of time on the beach and also had a good rest 😊 Unfortunately, the weather was not as sunny as hoped, as there was a typhoon in Hong Kong and southern China at that time. But other than being cloudy and a bit windier, we didn't notice anything. We were lucky that the storm barely touched us.

Due to its proximity to Russia, Hainan is also a popular destination for Russians. It was a pretty crazy and interesting combination because many signs were written in both Chinese and Cyrillic, so we couldn't read them at all 😂 And we could barely communicate in English, which sometimes made the stay a bit more difficult... We spent our last night in Haikou on the other side of the island. That's not really a city for tourists 😅 We experienced the 100% life of the Chinese there and got quite a culture shock. Our hostel was a pink/blue/yellow room in an apartment on the 9th floor of a high-rise building with many bunk beds in the hallway and in the other rooms, and a lot of dirt... The hostel was actually the apartment of the 'hostel operator' 🙈 If we could have communicated with the locals, it would have been interesting, but unfortunately, the communication was only through a translation app and we were glad when we moved on the next day. However, we did meet some great locals in a park, they were actually just taking care of the palm trees there, but then they harvested fresh coconuts for us to eat and drink 😊 Even though we couldn't talk to each other, it was somehow a huge joy for them and for us. The freshly harvested coconut for eating was really great 😊

Since yesterday, we've been in Hong Kong, but I'll talk about that in the next blog entry 😊 It's definitely cool here 🏙️

Greetings, Lena 😊
