On our first morning at Lake Powell, we wake up slowly and make use of our free time until our booked tour for Antelope Canyon to wash our laundry at the corresponding campsite. Here you can wash your laundry for little money and it's also relatively quick.
In the afternoon, we drive to Page to get to the meeting point for the Antelope Canyon tour. We had previously decided on the Canyon Tour by Chief Tsotsie and find the meeting point in the middle of Page. Once we arrive, we check in and shortly before the tour, we are treated to a performance by two young Navajo Indians. It is very beautiful and also shortens our waiting time.
Afterwards, we are asked to take a seat on pick-up trucks with installed benches on the loading area. We are instructed to fasten our seat belts and warned that the ride will be a little bumpy and windy. This was an extreme understatement, as the ride was very bumpy and very windy. But to put it briefly, these efforts are totally worth it, as the Antelope Canyon tour is worthwhile and the pictures that come out of it are very impressive.
After the Antelope Canyon tour, we drive to the nearby parking lot at Horse Shoe Bend of the Colorado River and walk the short path to the river. We are lucky because we arrive shortly before sunset, which creates a unique atmosphere with special light while we are there. We stay there until the sun has completely set and walk back to our car in the dark.
We decide to go eat something in Page and practically stumble upon the restaurant 'Big John's Texas BBQ'. There are two large smokers in front of the restaurant, where the meat is cooked at low temperature. In addition, the guests are served on the terrace, which is located under the roof of a former gas station. They have everything from pulled pork to smoked baby ribs. We opt for the baby ribs and can undoubtedly say that they are the best ribs we have ever eaten. The meat literally falls off the bone and is incredibly tender.
