24th January Nuriootpa - Broken Hill

So now we're leaving the green and heading into the Outback. The vegetation becomes scarcer and the roads have no more intersections. 500 km straight ahead. We stop at a 'rest stop' and have a little chat with the owner. She feels comfortable here, her only contact with the outside world is the truck drivers or farmers who drive 50 km for a beer. Otherwise, it's just heat, endless annoying mosquitoes, and loneliness.

In Broken Hill, known for its gold and silver mining, we also visited the Palace Hotel where scenes for the movie 'Priscilla, Queen of the Desert' were filmed. In the ghost town of Silverton, about 25 km away from Broken Hill, parts of the Mad Max movies were filmed. The evening sky was sensational.
