18. Şile (Turkey)

This time it's not just about heading to a new country - but directly to a new continent.

It takes us 8 hours from the island of Thassos to Şile on the Black Sea. For the first (and hopefully last) time, we drive the tank to the last drop and roll to the long-awaited gas station!

In Şile, we find it hard to find a nice and affordable apartment and then decide on a cheap hotel room because of the promised washing machine and pool - and often regret it!

We didn't jump into the pool because of the unbearable sound and we weren't allowed to wash clothes :) And since the rooms didn't have a balcony, we sat in camping chairs in front of the hotel in the evening!

The hotel is located outside of Şile, the beach section near us is beautiful and empty, while the outskirts are crowded as everywhere.

Şile is a beautiful city with many streets and a pleasant start to a new culture.

The castle of Şile, located below the city at the harbor, caused some protests after its restoration in 2015 because, according to many residents' opinion, it now reminded them of a famous comic character - but see for yourself!

And here too, we were surprised by animals everywhere and would have liked to pack all the dogs in our car and take them with us!

Finally, 3 quick questions for Katha:

1. Let's assume we have to return in 2 weeks at the latest. Where would you still like to fly/drive to spontaneously (excluding Georgia, too easy)? - 'Since entry to Iran, Pakistan, Israel, etc. is not yet possible, I would probably try to somehow get to Southeast Asia and finally eat noodle soups!'

2. Why do you enjoy listening to these horrifying murder and manslaughter podcasts so much? Do you have something planned? - 'On the one hand, I find it incredibly interesting what kind of sick and crazy people there are, on the other hand, I am well prepared if something happens to me - nothing can surprise me anymore!'

3. Which quality of Ronny would you like to have on your travels? - 'Being able to sleep anytime and anywhere. Really anytime and anywhere! Whether it's hot or cold, loud and exhausting, whether there are mosquitoes in the room, sitting or standing...'
