Today was the day. The farewell from SF was imminent. However, we still had to walk to the car rental first. Out of the hotel, crossed the street, and there we were.
'Unfortunately, we don't have the car you booked on site, but we can offer you a free upgrade. Mini van or full-size SUV?' What a question, bring on the SUV of course! And there it was, our temporary vehicle: a black Ford Expedition, tank edition. Brave Steffi took the wheel and skillfully maneuvered us from SF across the Golden Gate Bridge, first to Muir Beach, then to Muir National Park.
The park is home to the California Redwood. These trees can reach a height of over 110 meters. The tallest tree in the world, named Hyperion, is a California Redwood measuring 115 meters. They can live up to 2,000 years old. We were truly amazed by the sight of these giants.
As the lunchtime was coming to an end, but we still had the journey to Mariposa ahead of us, we set off. Traffic jam, traffic jam, and more traffic jam. Additionally, the GPS led us through the middle of nowhere, past huge orchards. On one of these roads, we accidentally stumbled upon some grapes... In total, we were on the road for about 6 hours, covering nearly 300 km.
In the evening, we had something delicious to eat at the local burger grill. Then we went to bed, completely exhausted...
