From Gibraltar to Granada

Ippubblikat: 20.11.2023

And so we continue to the southernmost tip of Spain - Tarifa. We settled into a nice campsite and enjoyed the view of Morocco. There's Africa... Hard to believe, right? It takes just under an hour by ferry from Tarifa to Tangier (Morocco). In fact, in the middle of the year we had the idea of adding Morocco to our travel list. Ultimately, that would have simply taken up too much time, which we wanted to spend differently.

We continue to Gibraltar. It's funny that you're suddenly in England. After border control, we walked across the tarmac from the military airport into the city. Of course we didn't miss out on seeing the monkeys on the mountain. Of course you also have to mention the great view up there.

In the last few days we covered a few kilometers and moved more and more inland. We discovered a lot of mountains and a number of olive trees. More olive oil is produced in Andalusia than in any other region in Spain. A good opportunity to buy some olive oil directly from the producer. We had a good day because when we arrived at the oil mill, the employees were in the middle of their work. We were able to witness several boxes full of fresh olives, the pressing and bottling process live. Lucky you, because olives are harvested and processed in November. So we were able to enjoy tasting and buying very fresh olive oil.
After a night in Granada we went to the infamous Alhambra in the morning. We've often heard: "You should definitely take a look at it, but make your reservations early enough!" No sooner said than done, we were able to get two more tickets online. Lucky, considering the waiting times are up to 4 weeks. The Alhambra is one of the most visited attractions in Europe. So the expectations were correspondingly high. And we weren't disappointed. The Alhambra is considered one of the most important examples of the Moorish style of Islamic art.
Definitely worth a visit! We were able to enjoy most parts of the Alhambra in peace at an early hour. The calm before the storm, because the tourist buses start arriving at 10 a.m. From then on the peace is over. We spent 3 hours there, walking through the palaces, the gardens and taking in the unique art and atmosphere. Another highlight was our first persimmon tree that we have seen so far. Woohoo, they taste so much better now.
In Grenada we really got into the autumn mood. Sometimes one or two leaves change color. The nights are gradually getting cooler and the temperatures during the day are falling. Nevertheless, the sun is our constant companion and ensures a comfortable temperature. In the evening it's time to snuggle up and enjoy a cup of tea. So it also has its charm!
Nevertheless, we head back towards the coast to avoid the impending cool temperatures inland at night. We will still enjoy the temperatures there to the fullest, because from now on it will only get further north.

We also enjoy this wonderful view from where we sleep today. Once again all to ourselves.
