Panda babies weigh only about 100 grams at birth! One of the interesting facts we learned about pandas at the 'Panda Research Base Of Giant Panda Breeding' in Chengdu. The facility, founded in 1987, is the reason why we embarked on the trip to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province. On a 600-hectare area, a natural habitat is created for the endangered animals. At this time, the station houses approximately 160 bears. It started with 6.
The panda station was a major reason for my wife to move to China in the first place. Accordingly, the anticipation was great. The day was somewhat rainy, it was drizzling already when we set off. We got up early to witness the panda breakfast. From 10-11 am, the lovely creatures take their first nap of the day. It was definitely worth it. We first encountered the animals in buildings. We could observe from up close how they joyfully ate their green bamboo sticks.
One of these little creatures can consume up to 20kg per day. The facility is large, so there is also plenty of space for spacious outdoor enclosures.
In addition to pandas, there is also a large pond with koi and ducks, a rose garden, and a large park.
Katrin in particular really liked the facility and its inhabitants, and it can't be ruled out that she will come back within the next two years.
We ended the day with a nice meal at a Turkish restaurant. Following the Lonely Planet guide, we went to 'Sultan'. Good restaurant in a 'Chinese neighborhood'.
