Chile - Punta Arenas

Ippubblikat: 23.01.2019

Next stop, Chile. Here is Punta Arenas, the largest city and considered the most beautiful city in Chile. Well, now we don't expect much from the other cities ;-). Located right on the Strait of Magellan, it also holds the title of 'Wind Capital', so there it is, the strong Patagonian wind that we definitely didn't miss.

South of Punta Arenas, in Puerto Hambre, is the southernmost lighthouse in the Americas. As you may have noticed, a lot of fuss is made here about being the southernmost whatever. The reason we wanted to go there so badly was because you can observe whales there. Since we have only seen whales once from the ship until now, and here there are only water fountains, we hiked there.

Of course, with our luck, we didn't see any whales, and many locals said that this is very unusual because there are almost always whales here, well great!

In the evening, we found a place to sleep overlooking the Strait of Magellan, and while we were sitting outside with a beer, 3 dolphins swam so close to the coast, right past us.

A day later, further north, we saw the water fountains of the whales again, but unfortunately, none of them showed their tail fin, well maybe we'll still have some luck with the whales.
