The American Aunt

Ippubblikat: 21.06.2017

June 16, 2017

Aunt Hanne has been living in the USA since 1956. She moved from her hometown Miltenberg in Lower Franconia with a young American soldier to Salt Lake City. The young soldier Hans Dehnert was the younger brother of Jürgen's father Martin Dehnert.

Today, Hannelore lives in Lincoln, California with her daughter Rebecca, unfortunately Hans passed away a few years ago. We were not sure the whole time whether we would actually make a visit, because Hanne is sick and not feeling well. Does it come in handy for us?

On our way to the West Coast, the sign "Lincoln 12 Miles" suddenly appears. We spontaneously turn off and find ourselves in a typical scattered settlement. We look up the telephone number and try our luck. Half an hour later we are picked up. Another 20 minutes later, we are sitting in the living room of a typical American suburban house in a typical suburban settlement. The aunt is happy, the visit is short but nice.

We started in Winnemucca, Nevada. After crossing the border into California, we found a beautiful mountain village with a historic train station and Union Pacific railway. In front of the cafes and souvenir shops, a pianist stimulates the purchasing power. On the way, we crossed the snowline.

After visiting relatives, we continue to Sacramento and find the worst campsite on the entire route. We forget to pay the rent.
