Elafonisi is a small island that is connected to the mainland beach by a sandbank, depending on the weather. It has been designated as a nature reserve. This area attracts many tourists every year. We were here with our van at Easter in 1997. However, we were the only campers at that time. 😊 But even now it is absolutely tolerable here. About 15 vehicles are parked on a huge area. It is hard to imagine how busy it gets in peak season. This morning, I went for a walk at 7:00. I wanted to enjoy this wonderful atmosphere alone. I feel like a vacuum cleaner. Unlike a vacuum cleaner, I don't collect dirt, but I absorb these unique moments to the fullest.

The northwest coast is very rocky and rugged. On the southeast coast, many small sea basins have formed between dark rocks, which are home to small sandy beaches. Flat sand dunes covered with low vegetation stretch between the two sides of the island. As the dunes should not be walked on, ropes are clearly visible.

Soon I saw the pink color of the beach, which is probably due to shell particles. At the southwestern tip of the island, there is a large wooden cross commemorating a shipwreck in 1907.

In 1824, it is said that 600-800 Greeks, who were fleeing from Ottoman troops, were killed here. At the highest point of the small island, a memorial plaque commemorates this event.

After our breakfast, Burki discovered a spot at the front of the beach and informed me that we should quickly change our location. It was worth it. In front of us, there is only a small beach, stones, and then nothing but the sea with a side view of the lagoon.

During a walk, Burki showed me where he had stumbled two days ago. It's a good thing I wasn't there, I would have definitely tripped again.
