We are trying some small accesses to the beach near Wellingtonbridge, bingo the Blackhall Strand is a hit, despite a small caravan parked there at the best spot.
We look out the rear window and see the beach, the sea, perfectly.
In the afternoon, I helped the elderly man in the caravan pull his kayak up to the car, we start talking. Later, he comes to our campfire.
He is 69 years old and a retired lighthouse keeper. For over 35 years, he has guarded almost all lighthouses around Ireland. They work for 4 weeks and then have 4 weeks off. Laughing, he said he only worked half of his life. He has many beautiful stories, as he joins us by the fire in the evening. He was born in the area, learned to swim here with his grandma. He swam to the island and back with his father. He shows his fish radar navigation system, the distance is simply 2.3 km.
Doro asks him how long he has been here with his caravan. The answer is forever. He has a house a few kilometers away, but he prefers to put on his waterproof suit, pack his kayak, mount the fishing rods, and go out. He stays as long as the weather allows, everyone knows him.
It is well past midnight, the wood is now all gone and we say goodbye like friends.
The next morning, I wake up early and enjoy the sunrise. Our neighbor is already dressed and ready to leave.
