After about 2.5 hours, we arrived at our accommodation, the Tirimbina Lodge. Here we were greeted by a hotel that feels like it's in the middle of the rainforest. The lodge is dedicated to preserving the fauna and flora, with numerous checkpoints set up. We had to change our first room because the safe was not working. The rooms were very basic, without a TV but with air conditioning and a hairdryer.
It was raining a bit, so we decided to sit on the terrace for a while. I immediately spotted and photographed a green toucan, which was missing from my collection.
In the evening, we drove to dinner by car. We had a delicious and affordable meal at Mar y Terra. The owner was incredibly nice, they had just reopened and didn't have a menu yet. We ate rice with shrimp, which will probably become my favorite dish... We had dessert and decided to come back tomorrow.
The included breakfast was served as a buffet and was simple but sufficient.
Since we had no rush, we ventured into the adjacent rainforest. To do this, we had to cross a steel suspension bridge... which was a horror for me since I don't like heights at all. But I was brave, went slowly, and held on at times. The worst part is knowing that we still had to cross back.
We were very observant and managed to spot a Howler Monkey and a Great Curassow. We found some tracks, but we don't know which animal left them 🙈 a few hummingbirds, ants, and Blue Jeans Frogs.
Back at the room, we were lucky to see and photograph two beautiful toucans. I also saw and photographed a large bird whose name I don't know, but it made terrible noises.
In the afternoon, a iguana visited us on the terrace. It was about 1.5 meters long, a very impressive animal.
In the afternoon, we drove to Puerto Viejo Sarapiqui. We ordered iced coffee at a bakery... it was incredibly delicious, but maybe a bit too calorie-rich.
Other than that, this town isn't very interesting. We walked through it once and then returned to the hotel.
We visited Mar y Terra again and were once again satisfied with the food, although the steak was a bit tough, it still tasted good. We had ice cream and fruit for dessert.
On our way back to the hotel, the park ranger showed us a sloth hanging on a tree at about 2 meters high. Unfortunately, the photos are unusable, they only show something silver in the tree.
The breakfast the next day was prepared for us. It probably wasn't worth setting up a buffet for the few guests here. But it was much better than the buffet.
After breakfast, we continued to the Caribbean coast... a few days of beach, sand, sun, and no rush.
