Tag 274 - Becán Ruins

Hello everyone

Today our day started again at 7:30 am, but much colder than the previous days. It really cools down at night here!

Yesterday, we planned to go to the lagoon by boat today. However, it was fully booked, and we could only get a timeslot from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, but we wanted to see the color play around noon and in the afternoon. So, we spontaneously changed our plan and decided to visit a Mayan site. Together with Peter and Jenny, we chose one that looked really cool!

According to the navigation system, it was 2.5 hours away, but we decided to take the journey. We asked the receptionist at their hotel for directions and he told us what to enter in the GPS. However, when we arrived at the archaeological site, it was still much further away! We would have had to drive another 60 kilometers to the park and then another 95 kilometers to reach our destination!

We were all slightly frustrated and hungry, so we sat down at a restaurant to discuss our next steps.

The food was really delicious and much cheaper than what we were used to! I tried a juice made from fresh melons - highly recommended!

We unanimously agreed that it was simply too far, as we would have had to come back as well.

Jenny found an alternative, just 6.5 kilometers away - this became our new destination ☺️

At first, we were all a bit skeptical, but these ruins turned out to be a really worthwhile insider tip!

The site was much larger than expected and had hardly any tourists. In addition, you were allowed to climb the pyramids there, which is forbidden at most other sites.

We walked around there, climbed the pyramids, admired the precise construction, goofed around, and took lots of photos ☺️

In the end, we were all very satisfied and happy with the compromise solution ☺️.

We drove back and arrived at Peter & Jenny's accommodation around 5 pm.

Since each of us was quite exhausted, we decided to spend the evening separately and meet again tomorrow.

On the way back, Kevin and I bought some drinks at the supermarket, withdrew money, and got mosquito repellent - there are a lot of these creatures here!

Now Kevin and I are going to Bacalar to have dinner and stroll around a bit ☺️
