Last stop - last city trip!
After a total of 12 hours of train ride and 6 hours of waiting in between, we finally arrived in Berlin at 9 am in the morning.
Totally exhausted, we dropped off our stuff at our last host's place and immediately set out to explore Berlin.
But first, we went to a supermarket to get some energy for the day.
Then we headed to the Berlin Wall and its memorial sites as our first stop. We were deeply moved by the fates and also visited the public exhibition at the former ghost station Nordbahnhof.
To cheer ourselves up, we decided to go to Potsdamer Platz. Once we arrived there, we were able to discover some cool buildings.
On the way to the Brandenburg Gate, we passed by the Memorial to the Murdered Jews, but we didn't understand the 'art' behind it.
The Brandenburg Gate gave us a new boost. It is a wonderful architectural masterpiece, which was evident from the crowds in front of it.
After taking some photos, we headed towards the TV Tower or Alexanderplatz.
We passed by some universities, but we also saw the State Opera, unfortunately covered in renovation works.
When we heard church bells ringing, we knew we were near the Cathedral. We went in the opposite direction and found it! The magnificent and simply awe-inspiring architecture is truly remarkable here.
Next to the cathedral, we also found some art galleries.
After a little lunch break, we continued on to the Marienkirche, the Neptune Fountain, the Red City Hall, and the TV Tower.
From the 304m high viewing platform of the tower, you can overlook the entire Berlin - simply amazing.
Some bachelor parties and a pro-cannabis demonstration took place in the late afternoon and caught our attention.
A relaxed walk along the East Side Gallery, the part of the Berlin Wall that has been embellished with art, brought us some relaxation.
As our last and final destination, we chose Checkpoint Charlie. The original signs, as well as the hut and some men dressed as US soldiers, gave the place the right flair.
We immediately got some passport stamps and took some photos.
On the long way back home, we stocked up on food for the journey and are now completely exhausted and ready to fall into bed!
(Sidefact: 21.5km on foot, 12-hour train ride - the night before)
