Sorry for not updating for so long. I wanted to summarize both Mexico City stays. After three weeks of surfing with Victor in Sayulita, I'm back in the capital. There's more about Sayulita in the next post.

A city with a population of a quarter of the German Federal Republic. I was really looking forward to CDMX because of the food culture and I definitely wasn't disappointed! The best and juiciest tacos I've ever had ended up in my stomach and I shoveled a lot of them. From classic to fancy to fusion tacos, everything was available. My favorites were:

Fish tacos: El Pescadito

Classic: Tacos El Betin (every part of the cow was offered here)

A bit fancier: Taquería Orinoco (a chain in CDMX, sometimes waiting for 1 hour)

Vegan tacos: Groovy's Taquería Vegana (El Pastor was amazing)

All 10 out of 10 shovel points!

To be honest, this was also most of what I did in the 1.5 weeks: tracking down taco places

There was also a selection of all cuisines here, so I was able to enjoy very authentic ramen, good pizzas and we also had family dinners at the hostel.

I also got to experience my first wrestling match. I never understood the enthusiasm for this sport until then. A mix of sport and acting that really made me laugh a lot. The whole scenery made me feel like I was in Mexico. The wrestling masks, the big hall with lots of lights, the vendors who kept coming by and trying to sell overpriced drinks and food, the painted faces, and even the very small wrestlers rounded everything off. I even went a second time with Victor.

We also visited three museums during those days. Once the National Museum of Anthropology and a few days later the Museum of Modern Art. During my second stay, I visited the Frida Kahlo Museum. One of Mexico's most famous women, who was marked by hard blows of fate and yet relentlessly pursued her passion for art. The National Museum of Anthropology was the biggest museum I've ever been to. For my taste, it was too overwhelming, so I felt like I couldn't do justice to everyone. This was about the history of Mexico and especially about the indigenous tribes and peoples. The Art Museum featured a lot of sexual content.

I also visited the largest pyramids of the Aztecs in Teotihuacán. We hiked there for about 2 hours by public transportation. In Mexico, the different indigenous tribes Maya, Aztecs, and Incas are distinguished. Here one can notice that the construction of the pyramids is also different. The Aztecs used relatively small stones (head size) and a kind of mortar.

In Mexico City's Central Park, there is also the only castle in Central America. We also visited it and thanks to the hill on which it was built, we could overlook the city wonderfully and realize once again how huge Mexico City is.

What I was looking forward to on my second stay was seeing Tino again, as he stayed in CDMX for the 3 weeks I was in Sayulita. I also got to see Lydia again, as she will be working here for more than 3 months now.

Oh, Mexico City also offers crazy parties. We went out relatively frequently for our standards.

We just made our plans. I will visit Yucatan for 5 more days and then we will meet again in El Salvador 🇸🇻. Milena, Tara, and hopefully Angus will join us there. Tara had to go home at short notice because she suffered a herniated disc in her neck from a tube while surfing. But she is trying to catch up. All three are from Australia and we have become a harmonious travel crew. We want to travel down the coast through Honduras 🇭🇳 to Nicaragua 🇳🇮 and surf everywhere.

Overall, I really like Mexico City. It is a pleasant stay between beach trips because you can feel fresh again here. After taking a shower, you're not immediately sweating again. Currently, it's around 20 degrees during the day and it goes down to 10 at night. For me, this is the perfect comfortable temperature for living. Also, I feel totally safe in the neighborhoods where we stay. We're mostly in Roma Norte, Sur, and Condesa. CDMX is also much cleaner than I thought. This is certainly also due to the wealthy neighborhoods. They are equipped with beautiful old houses and characterized by streets with many trees. It feels more like being in Madrid. I would love to come back here.
