Tag 73: Visiting the Waitomo Caves and the Shire

Today we start our exciting day with the Waitomo Caves, where you can see glow worms (larvae of fungus gnats). We will have a guided tour through the cave with stalagmites and stalactites, and finally take a boat ride through the glowworm cave. It's quite impressive and beautiful. We feel like we're under the starry sky. Unfortunately, taking photos is not allowed here.

Then our journey continues to Hobbiton, the film set of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies. We will be driven to the set in a packed tour bus with 80% Asians, where our guide has trouble keeping the group together. Nevertheless, it is a sightseeing tour for us. Fascinating how Sir Peter Jackson let his perfectionism reign here. Houses of different sizes to film the scenes with height differences. Everything planned down to the smallest detail. We love it 😀
