Vouécourt to Foulain

प्रकाशित: 22.05.2023

We have already spent a few days on the Canal Champagne-Bourgogne. Saint-Dizier is the first and largest city in the Haut Marne department. The environment changes noticeably after the last mooring in Saint-Dizier. We dive into a rural idyll in the middle of France. Our view is largely focused on the canal and its immediate surroundings, which has impressed us.

We pass through places with stone houses, simple but well-kept. The valley narrows, the canal curves tighter, and in some places, the canal, the railway, and the Marne have to coexist in a confined space. All three continue their journey along wooded cliffs that can hardly be recognized. Along the canal, there is a bike path and frequently pedestrians, cyclists, and anglers.

The Marne flows a few meters lower than the canal. We cross the river repeatedly, which meanders through a partly narrow but sometimes wider valley towards the flat land.

We can recommend to anyone to spend a few days away from everyday life in this environment. It can certainly be combined with a visit to Paris, then these are the extremes in immediate succession.

We pass by Chaumont, the prefecture of the Haute-Marne department.

In Chaumont, there is a mooring point, but it is located below the city and only makes a better impression when passing by, as I had initially assumed based on the map study. The Marne, along with the canal, makes a wide curve around the city, so we hardly get to see anything of the city.

We enjoy it, and our next destination is the mooring point in Foulain. There, we only expect a quiet place. It is located approximately halfway between Vouécourt and Langres.
