We have already been here for 1 week, it is Sunday. Today, the temperature is predicted to be 32 degrees Celsius and the sun is already shining early in the morning. Pauline had to attend an online seminar again at 3:00 am this morning, but she handled it without any problems. She finished around 10:00 am and rested. Anne and I decided to go out alone today, we want to go to the Finance District and then take the ferry to Staten Island. I had planned to pass close to the Statue of Liberty. The girls wanted to admire the street art in Williamsburg today and visit a large fashion market for second-hand clothing - Urban Jungle. They came back with a big haul. So we set off for the ferry and went one stop to Pier 6. This time, we went south under the Manhattan Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge. It was very beautiful again, with nice weather and fresh wind. Like on vacation :-). From Pier 6, we walked along the water, past the various ferry terminals, to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. It was huge, well labeled, and we quickly reached the boarding area. There were big ships but also a lot of people. That's not surprising because this ferry is free and there were many excursionists. We found a nice spot on the upper deck and it quickly started. We were able to admire the skyline of South Manhattan and take many photos. We were also on the right side and could pass the Statue of Liberty directly. It is a really impressive building and I really enjoyed it, in the sunshine and wind in my hair. We also saw Ellis Island, where the immigration authority used to be and where thousands of immigrants were accepted every day. After about 30 minutes, we arrived at Staten Island and everyone had to get off. Actually, we wanted to go back immediately, but once we arrived, we explored the surrounding area. It was a large shopping mall. We strolled through the cool shops and of course found some things. Then we treated ourselves to a refreshing Frappuccino from Starbucks, as it was 30 degrees Celsius again. We then went back to Manhattan and this time we stood on the other side of the boat. Here we saw Governors Island. A relatively large island with lots of greenery and old naval buildings. After arriving in Manhattan, we went to Battery Park and sat on a shady bench. Here we enjoyed the view of the Statue of Liberty and the relaxed people around us. We also observed the commercial excursion boats to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. There was a lot going on and the boats were leaving one after another. Then we went to the Finance District and saw the Wall Street with the stock exchange. In the narrow streets, there were occasional gusts of wind that were quite pleasant. Then we went back to Pier 6 and looked for the ferry to Brooklyn Dumbo. There, we wanted to visit Dumbo Park and enjoy the famous view of the bridges. We enjoyed the short ferry ride. Upon arriving in Dumbo, we first had to refill our water bottles. There were free water stations. In the park, many people were on the shady lawns. We sat on some stairs with a view of the Manhattan skyline. Then we continued to the Manhattan Bridge, past old brick houses with many shops, until we reached the spot where all Instagram stars took their photos. Anne and I followed suit :-). The girls also wanted to go there. Since we didn't have any contact, we continued towards the apartment after some time. Here, we prepared a refreshing tomato salad and waited on the terrace for the girls to arrive. They came home separately, as Marie wanted to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge, but Pauline did not. Then we unpacked the full bags and presented the "loot of the day".
