Entlang der Küste Montenegros

Ulcinj - worth seeing?

From Lake Skadar, we now head towards the coast. Our first stop is Ulcinj, the first coastal city near the Albanian border. Above the city, you have a beautiful view of the small town and old town with a fortress. After searching for a parking space for a long time, we ventured into the hustle and bustle. Ulcinj is a smaller coastal city, but still very interesting. Down by the sea, a mosque suddenly rises between the houses. The beach is as crowded as expected - away from the city, there are smaller, quieter bays away from the hustle and bustle. We also cooled off for a short time there - the water is very clear. We stroll through the streets, climb up to the old town, and get lost in its alleys. You can really eat well here and enjoy the wonderful view of the sea. If you come here with expectations of a beach holiday, you will probably be disappointed. I recommend strolling through the town, but there are more interesting corners in Montenegro and especially more beautiful bathing areas.

From the city, we drive to our next accommodation, which is definitely a highlight (booked again on Booking). The journey there was quite adventurous. It goes through an olive grove for a good distance - we have the feeling that we stranded in Greece. In the midst of olive groves, you can expect bungalows or tents with a breathtaking view of the sea. For one night, we booked a 'tent' with a large mattress and there are sockets and electricity. My eyes cannot get enough of the beautiful trees and nature - and then this view - just wow!

If you stay there, be sure to try the delicious oven-baked fish! The next morning, a delicious and varied breakfast is served - everything tastes twice as delicious with the facility and the view!

Bar - Stari Bar - Old Bar? What now?

From there, we drive towards Bar and want to take a look at the small town 'Stari Bar'. On the way, we stop at one of the oldest olive trees worldwide with over 2,000 years. If you go behind the gate here, you have to pay €1 entrance fee. We skipped that and looked at it from the outside and walked around it.

Stara Maslina - Old Olive Tree

We didn't visit the port city of Bar on the coast, as it is supposed to not be very beautiful - especially known for its large freight port. When we pass the city on our way, we don't regret not making a stop here - everything looks pretty run-down.

Stari Bar, on the other hand, is a very cute old town. It is worth taking a short trip here and strolling through the old town. Sit down in one of the cute cafes, try freshly squeezed pomegranate juice, and watch the hustle and bustle of the people.

The fortress is idyllically located between the mountain ranges. If you want to visit the fortress, I think you have to pay an entrance fee of 2-3€. We didn't go inside - the view from the outside was enough for us.
