Tag 84: When in a glass house

And everyday the groundhog greets us. Once again, it's raining. And today it's raining so much that we really don't know what else to do. So we spend a lot of time in our glass house, which also has four wheels.

Originally, we drove to Lake Taupo because there are many hiking opportunities in the area and we wanted to do a day hike through a volcanic landscape. But the conditions are so bad that this trail has even been closed. Besides, we don't want to ruin our down jackets (the only jacket-like clothing we brought), so we don't even have the possibility to pursue our plans. We briefly consider buying a rain jacket on the 84th day of our trip, after surviving the Asian monsoon, but decide against it. Instead, we try once again to make it through the day somehow. I find it more than shocking that I have to phrase it like this, but unfortunately we have been mostly disappointed from the North Island of New Zealand until now. On the other hand, our luck continues on the South Island, as it blesses us with its wonderful scenery and reveals more than just its sweet side, exclusively in good weather.

Today, the hours pass rather slowly, but at least we can avoid some of the stress that awaits us at home. So I continue working on my research paper while Gudi diligently sends out job applications. If we are lucky, we would come back and I could start the new semester without any baggage while Gudi prepares for her first day of work. To complete the illusion, we are also diligently searching for an apartment, which is made easier by the World Wide Web, but certainly not completely uncomplicated.

As a summary of this day, I should probably say that, especially towards the end of this trip, it won't be a mistake to devote some time to serious matters. The mini crisis, which I am already preparing my brain for, will probably still occur at home. So I am both excited and fearful of the first tasks after this short chapter of life, although I think that the energy and motivation to tackle what needs to be done and what awaits us at home is slowly but surely growing.

Gudi's glorious laws:

In the past few days, I have been a little rusty in terms of writing. Whether it's because of the impending end of this experience or because a certain monotony is slowly creeping in. Especially in this section, I had to really squeeze something out of myself in the past articles, which doesn't necessarily meet my claim to make the content of this blog entertaining and authentic. So I have decided to only mention Gudi's glorious laws when I really come up with something suitable. I see this, especially because this section was not there from the beginning, as a certain rounding off of the entire blog.
