Weekend at Lake Victoria

प्रकाशित: 05.02.2017

After my roommate finished braiding her hair, we left for Entebbe around 1pm, slightly delayed. The lake is about 100km away, but we didn't arrive at the hotel until around 6pm. Transportation here is usually done in two ways: Boda Boda (motorcycles with a passenger seat at the back) for short distances, or Matutus (small 12-seater buses) for longer distances where they stop everywhere and people get on and off.

So we took a Matutu to Kampala first, then changed and went to Entebbe. We got stuck on a shortcut dirt road in between...

That's when the Mazungu had to flex his muscles and push the car out. All in all, traveling here is quite chaotic, annoying, and time-consuming. But we only paid about 2€ each in total for the transport!!!

When we arrived at the hotel, we took a shower first. Even though the water came with minimal pressure, it was really nice to be able to shower normally again.

Later, we went to eat Chinese food and then took a boda boda back to the hotel. You have to be a little bit reckless to ride at night, the guys ride like crazy without helmets.

The next day, we went to the botanical garden by the lake. It was nice, we saw some monkeys and the rainbow spider...

Afterwards, we had a pizza by the lake, a nice change. Since Entebbe has nothing else to offer, we made our way back early. At one point, we had 26(!) people in a 12-seater bus. It's difficult to stay relaxed in that situation.

Since my original plan to explore the capital on Saturday was ruined due to the late arrival, I will do it the day before my departure!

See you soon!
