Today, on January 18, 2019, the day has finally come: I'm leaving Mönchengladbach, also known as MG Action Town to insiders, and moving to Manchester for 6 months.
Fun Fact: Mönchengladbach is also known as Manchester am Niederrhein. That's fate!
The University of Manchester has about 40,000 students, three times as many as Mönchengladbach. So, there will be quite a few things different from home.
Always on time, we were at the airport about 3 hours before departure and still had some time to explore Düsseldorf Airport.
But eventually, it was time to go to the gate and say goodbye. As you can see, Dad had a particularly hard time!
Because Eurowings never disappoints when it comes to punctuality, I arrived in Manchester at 16:15 with a delay of about 70 minutes. Of course, due to 'complications', I couldn't sit in the seat I had booked, but disappointed and annoyed customers seem to be part of the company's philosophy.
The airport is quite far outside, so it takes another 30 minutes to get to Fallowfield, the district where I now live. From here, it takes another 20 minutes by bus to get to the city center. There are 8 people living in my house and I share a small floor with another person. Everyone in the house is a student and around 20 years old. The house is a typical old English terraced house and is conveniently located. My room is small but nice. I estimate it's about 12 square meters and is on the 2nd floor of the house.
Fortunately, my room is very clean, which cannot be said about the rest of the house. I can't say when someone last cleaned it, but it definitely hasn't happened this year.
So far, I know 4 out of 7 people and they're all very nice and helpful. Sometimes, I have to concentrate very hard to understand what people here are trying to say. I'm definitely excited to see what's next.
Stay Tuned!
