Yesterday was Halloween. We met in disguise in the evening and walked along Séptima, which is one of the most important and longest streets here in Bogotá. We walked almost 10 kilometers in total. Almost everyone on the entire street was dressed up. There were a lot of people dressed as Catrina or Mariachi from Día de los Muertos, which was by far the most common costume. I also saw 4 dudes literally walking around with a swastika bandage on them and I was so mad, I mean who even sells something like that as a disguise? After all, it was the scariest costume I've seen. Ever. I had simply painted on my face with eyeliner what Rachel Ross painted on her face when they got married drunk in Las Vegas in Season 5 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZduC725ATk). Plus, I was Harry Potter, I had the scar drawn on my forehead and found a cool wand on the way or stole it from a tree. And another thing: instead of “Trick or Treat,” they simply say “Quiero dulces por favor,” i.e. “Please give me something sweet.” Come on. This is the most boring Halloween saying in human history. Then I came up with better ones like "dulces o chinga tu madre" or "dulces o gonorrea marica". If this site speaks Spanish I will be banned.
At some point I realized that tomorrow/today is November. I was really shocked, that means I've been here for almost 4 months? And it also means that Christmas has officially started. So Christmas tends to start in September here, but with Halloween there's another celebration in between and when that's over, then it's Christmas. Christmas here is great. I'll tell you all this in more detail. This will be my first Christmas without my mom and my sister. At least my dad will be here. But it's a strange feeling to spend Christmas every year in the same place, in the same house with more or less the same people and suddenly not. I'll miss my uncle's obligatory socks and I'll miss annoying my cousin and decorating the Christmas tree and blasting my terrible American Christmas playlist that always annoys everyone. But I get to know a new Christmas with a new family. Two pigeons just kissed outside my window. How sweet. Maybe one just wanted to steal food from the other's beak. But it looked very passionate. Okay, they just kissed again. Get a room. Do you think animals can fall in love? So yes, they're mostly concerned with survival and reproduction, but they can't express their feelings in human language, which means we can't know what they're feeling. So I can just choose to believe that these pigeons had their first date yesterday and now they just can't keep their beaks off each other. And with that, Merry Christmas and Merry Crisis<3
