Day 9: Travel to Karlskrona

प्रकाशित: 20.06.2019

After waking up, our first task was to see how much the things - toys, high chairs, and the laundry - left outside overnight were affected by the night rain. In the evening, Adam demanded his mom for a long time, so we minimized the packing afterwards - of course, if we had known that it would pour down....never mind.

After breakfast, we moved on, this time a slightly longer distance awaited us, about 120 km. Destination: Karlskrona. Since life in Sweden is generally slower than in Germany (e.g. maximum 110 km/h on the motorway, outside residential areas 70/80 km/h), we estimated about 2 hours for the journey. It's impressive how patient people are on the roads. And here we are racing in the 3.5-tonne Womo. They are probably wondering where these people are rushing... but everyone is used to different things.

Our campsite is in the heart of the city, on a small island. We came all the way through the center and the harbor. It is a very charming city, and we will explore it tomorrow as usual on two wheels. Or rather on six wheels, two wheels for Anjie, two wheels for the boys, 2 wheels for Petuse😀

Fortunately, we got a place in good time. The campsite was completely full in the afternoon.

Tomorrow is Midsummer, a huge celebration in Sweden. In Hungary, it is known as St. John's Eve or the summer solstice. Uncle Lajos told stories about it, he described it as the raising of the May tree, dancing tradition, and the day when no Swedish man stays thirsty😃🍺

We have been seeing the preparations for days. The locals come to the campsite, as many of them have permanent passes. They all pull out their caravans and set up a large awning. We have seen complete living rooms in some places, with sofas, armchairs, TVs, while we have something else... Last week, the summer break started for students as well, so you can see a lot of young people on the beaches and in the streets.

Afternoon nap, we went to the beach again. Ben is never tired of it. There is a German family next to us with children about the same age. Ben and Paul found each other so well, they played so nicely on the beach.

They played in the sand, measured the water, and let the little balls float. One wouldn't think how much it means when kids get along well and entertain each other.

We quickly showered after the sandy beach before dinner. Everyone was ravenous. Adam ate his portion and then babbled like a little fish. This kid has an insatiable appetite😂

We hope to have a peaceful night and that the locals don't overdo the celebration.
