The Path of a Thousand Torii Gates

In the south of Kyoto lies the Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine. It is not so much known for its exterior, but for the path lined with thousands of red torii gates that winds through the forest for 4km behind the shrine. In Shintoism, Inari is the god of fertility and rice and takes the form of a fox.

At the beginning of the trail, you'll find yourself being pushed along more than walking. But after a few hundred meters, the crowd thins out. The path is truly beautiful. However, it's not a walk in the park, especially in 30-degree heat and humid weather (it's uphill). But I didn't buy a long sweat towel for nothing, which many Japanese people wrap around their necks.
