My morning routine this time consists of a 2nd run to 'El Mirador', this time with a view in morning light, and swimming in the lake.
We go to 'Gona doña' for breakfast again, which has become our regular breakfast spot (delicious breakfast at a great price, view of the lake, super friendly waiters, pleasant music, and sufficient WiFi for planning and writing blog posts).
With a heavy heart, we say goodbye to Flores and take a tuktuk to the Santa Elena bus terminal. There, our 4-hour journey begins on a local bus. Cheap, but far from comfortable, and the bus driver drives way too fast, so we are relieved when we can get off the bus.
Once we arrive, we go to a hotel and ask about the room rates. We stay at a backpacker hotel by the river for 120 Quetzales (about 14 euros). The hostel fully supports a children's home in Guatemala, so we inquire about volunteering opportunities, as we have been considering doing Workaway during our trip. Unfortunately, they only accept volunteers for 3 months :( In the restaurant, we strike up a conversation with an American couple who Julio already saw in Tikal. It feels good to talk to other travelers again and exchange experiences.
